ItemA Machine Learning Evaluation of Maintenance Records for Common Failure Modes in PV Inverters(IEEE Access, 2020-11-26) THUSHARA GUNDA ; SEAN HACKETT ; LAURA KRAUS ; CHRISTOPHER DOWNS ; RYAN JONES ; CHRISTOPHER MCNALLEY ; MICHAEL BOLEN ; ANDY WALKERInverters are a leading source of hardware failures and contribute to significant energy losses at photovoltaic (PV) sites. An understanding of failure modes within inverters requires evaluation of a dataset that captures insights from multiple characterization techniques (including field diagnostics, production data analysis, and current-voltage curves). One readily available dataset that can be leveraged to support such an evaluation are maintenance records, which are used to log all site-related technician activities, but vary in structuring of information. Using machine learning, this analysis evaluated a database of 55,000 maintenance records across 800+ sites to identify inverter-related records and consistently categorize them to gain insight into common failure modes within this critical asset. Communications, ground faults, heat management systems, and insulated gate bipolar transistors emerge as the most frequently discussed inverter subsystems. Further evaluation of these failure modes identified distinct variations in failure frequencies over time and across inverter types, with communication failures occurring more frequently in early years. Increased understanding of these failure patterns can inform ongoing PV system reliability activities, including simulation analyses, spare parts inventory management, cost estimates for operations and maintenance, and development of standards for inverter testing. Advanced implementations of machine learning techniques coupled with standardization of asset labels and descriptions can extend these insights into actionable information that can support development of algorithms for condition-based maintenance, which could further reduce failures and associated energy losses at PV sites.

ItemA narrative review of evidence to support increased domestic resource mobilization for family planning in Nigeria( 2023) Chinyere Ojiugo Mbachu ; Ifunanya Clara Agu1 ; Chinazom N. Ekwueme ; Anne Ndu ; Obinna OnwujekweBackground Family planning (FP) is an important public health intervention that is proven to reduce unplanned pregnancies, unsafe abortions, and maternal mortality. Increasing investments in FP would ensure stability and better maternal health outcomes in Nigeria. However, evidence is needed to make a case for more domestic investment in family planning in Nigeria. We undertook a literature review to highlight the unmet needs for family planning and the situation of its funding landscape in Nigeria. A total of 30 documents were reviewed, including research papers, reports of national surveys, programme reports, and academic/research blogs. The search for documents was performed on Google Scholar and organizational websites using predetermined keywords. Data were objectively extracted using a uniform template. Descriptive analysis was performed for quantitative data, and qualitative data were summarized using narratives. Frequencies, proportions, line graphs and illustrative chart were used to present the quantitative data. Although total fertility rate declined over time from 6.0 children per woman in 1990 to 5.3 in 2018, the gap between wanted fertility and actual fertility increased from 0.2 in 1990 to 0.5 in 2018. This is because wanted fertility rate decreased from 5.8 children per woman in 1990 to 4.8 per woman in 2018. Similarly, modern contraceptive prevalence rate (mCPR) decreased by 0.6% from 2013 to 2018, and unmet need for family planning increased by 2.5% in the same period. Funding for family planning services in Nigeria comes from both external and internal sources in the form of cash or commodities. The nature of external assistance for family planning services depends on the preferences of funders, although there are some similarities across funders. Irrespective of the type of funder and the length of funding, donations/funds are renewed on annual basis. Procurement of commodities receives most attention for funding whereas, commodities distribution which is critical for service delivery receives poor attention. Conclusion Nigeria has made slow progress in achieving its family planning targets. The heavy reliance on external donors makes funding for family planning services to be unpredictable and imbalanced. Hence, the need for more domestic resource mobilization through government funding.

ItemA Practical Guide for the Supply Chain Management of Health Commodities( 2010)The Logistics Handbook: A Practical Guide for the Supply Chain Management of Health Commodities offers practical guidance in managing the supply chain, with an emphasis on health commodities. This handbook will be particularly useful for program managers who design, manage, and assess logistics systems for health programs. In addition, policymakers, system stakeholders, and anyone working in logistics will also find it helpful as a system overview and overall approach. Key terms and concepts are clearly defined and explained. The document includes detailed information about the design and implementation of logistics management information systems and inventory control systems. Overviews of quantification, procurement processes, as well as storage, transport, and product selection, are also included.

ItemAcademic Records Management Systems (ARMS) and Students' Academic Records Maintenance in Nigerian Universities( 2023-10) Godswill Okon ; Eboro E. Umoren ; Kathryn PhilipsLibrarians organize information resources of all kind for easy access and retrieval. Organizational records are one of such information resources that librarians organize for quick access and easy retrieval when needed by the organizations. Academic records being vital information resources that determines the future of students and the efficient workability of academic institutions like universities and other schools are to be well managed and organized so as not to get them mutilated, destroyed or missing. These academic records which include course registration, results, transcript and the likes are supposed to be well managed as they contain delicate information concerning the daily transactions of students and lecturers in the institution and they also contain evidence of academic performances of the trainees. In this 21st century universities in Nigeria are expected to be able to grow beyond managing such delicate and important records manually with the use of papers, files and cabinet to managing the records with the use of academic records management system software (ARMS) that is specially configured with the relevant and requisite modules to manage and organize academic records. Whereas a lot of universities in Nigeria are yet to upgrade to using some of these software to manage their academic records, it is pertinent for this paper to be able to expose some of such ways that these very important records can be properly and efficiently managed. This style of managing student academic records are important in order to guard against natural and artificial disasters like flood, fire, humidity, dust, mutilation, lost etc. when these records are managed with the use of the academic records management system (ARMS) it goes a long way to ensuring safety and easy access of the students academic records. So this paper presents Concepts of ARMS, Students’ academic records, Types of records management systems (RMS), elements and feature of a efficient RMS, ARMS procedure, Advantages and perceived problems of using ARMS, Application of ARMS in maintenance of students academic records.

ItemACCESSIBILITY: THE ROLE OF TRANSPORTATION ON URBANIZATION IN LOKOJA, NIGERIA, 1854 - 1991(Romanian Journal of Historical Studies, 2024) Anthony D Ali ; Terngu Sylvanus NomishanThis paper explores the significant impact of transportation on the urbanization of Lokoja from 1854 to 1991. Lokoja, strategically positioned at the confluence of the Niger and Benue rivers, benefits from its prime location on the main road connecting northern and southern Nigeria. This advantageous positioning has made it a critical hub in the nation's communication network. The modern urban development of Lokoja accelerated in 1991 with the creation of Kogi State and the designation of Lokoja as its capital. This event triggered a substantial influx of people from various parts of Nigeria, leading to rapid urban expansion. As the population grew, the demand for a robust and strategic transportation infrastructure became increasingly pressing. The study draws on a diverse range of data sources, including primary sources like oral interviews and archival materials, as well as secondary sources such as journals, monographs, and books. The findings underscore the necessity of transforming Lokoja's transport systems to sustain its economic and human development. Specifically, enhancing both road and water transport systems is crucial to boosting economic activities in the town. Furthermore, the study advocates for the revitalization of Lokoja's pre-colonial and colonial water transport systems. This rejuvenation is seen as essential for the economic prosperity of the town and the well-being of its residents. By improving these transport networks, Lokoja can better support its expanding population and foster continued urban and economic growth.
